Sean Cullen survives elimination on TV's Last Comic Standing

Sean Cullen is still standing on Last Comic Standing.

The Peterborough, Ont., comedian, known for his trademark black porkpie hat, survived elimination Thursday night on the sixth season of the NBC reality show.

"I'm going to smother Jim Tavare in his sleep," Cullen said after being beaten in the immunity challenge by the British comic.

Cullen rose to fame as a member of the comedy troupe Corky and the Juice Pigs. The group toured around the world, releasing albums and performing eight times at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal.

In 1998, Cullen went solo, appearing on various late night talk shows with his unique brand of comedy that often includes improvised song. He has also starred in a Canadian stage production of The Producers, written two novels for young adults and he hosts a show on CBC Radio entitled Simply Sean.

Last Comic Standing, which airs on Global in Canada, is hosted by Bill Bellamy and sees hopefuls competing in standup comedy showdowns in Las Vegas.

The winner gets a $250,000 grand prize, including an exclusive talent deal with NBC.

Other Canadian comics who have fared well on the show include Debra DiGiovanni and Gerry Dee, both from Toronto.
