Sheen returns to rehab, show halted

Charlie Sheen's hit TV series Two and a Half Men has been put on hiatus after the actor returned to rehab.

Sheen's publicist, Stan Rosenfield, confirmed Friday the 45-year-old actor had "voluntarily entered an undisclosed rehabilitation centre."

No other details were divulged.

Soon after, a joint statement was issued by CBS,production company Warner Bros. and the show's executive producer Chuck Lorre, stating that production was halted.

"We are profoundly concerned for [Charlie Sheen's] health and well-being, and support his decision," said the statement.

Sixteen of the show's 24-episode order have been taped.The show's suspension is an abrupt change from statements made by CBS earlier this week that they expected Sheen to be back on set on Friday.

This isn't the first time the actor has triggered the temporary suspension of his show. Last February, he entered rehab for an unspecified problem.

Sheen's return to rehab came on the heels of an emergency call Thursday by one of the actor's neighbours Dr. Paul Nassif, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon saying Sheenwas "intoxicated" and complaining of abdominal and chest pains.

The actor's tumultuous life has been in the headlines since last year when his wife accused him of threatening her on Christmas day in 2009.

Sheen pleaded guilty last summer to assaulting his wife in Aspen, Colorado, and the couple have since separated.

His partying antics have filled the gossip pages and entertainment shows.This month, his weekend in Las Vegas also made headlines.

CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler said last weekthat while the actor's off-camera actions haven't had an impact on his work, executives had a " a high level of concern" about him.
