Sylvia Tyson to headline Canadian folk awards gala

The Canadian Folk Music Awards committee has unveiled a list of scheduled performers for this year's gala, a list headlined by Sylvia Tyson.

The Canadian Folk Music Awards committee has unveiled a list of scheduled performers for this year'sgala,headlined by Sylvia Tyson.

Tyson, who began singing in the 1960s in folk duo Ian & Sylvia, is now a solo artist and member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

She will performat the Canadian Folk Music Awards on Dec. 1, during an evening that will includeWinnipeg's Grammy-nominated group the Duhks.

Last year's winner of the award for best emerging artist, Vancouver singer-songwriter T. Nile, willtake the stage, as will veteran songwriter Ron Hynes.

Innu singer-songwriter Florent Vallant, formerly of the group Kashtin and now a solo artist, is also scheduled to perform.

The awards ceremony, at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Gatineau, Que., will be hosted by CBC Radio's Shelagh Rogers and Juno Award-winning Quebec musician Benot Bourque.

The list of award nominees is to be released Oct. 17 in Ottawa.
