Paramount Pictures is making good on the Terminator's vow"I'll be back" by reviving the action franchise.

The studio announced that its Terminator series, about sentient cyborg assasins from the future and originally starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, will be revamped with a new trilogy.

The first new film is set for release in late June 2015, but Paramount did not reveal who would direct or star.

Speaking recently in Australia however, Schwarzenegger, 65, said he was "very happy that the studios want me to be in Terminator 5 and to star as the Terminator, which we start shooting in January."

The actor and former California governor starred in the first three Terminator films (released in 1984, 1991 and 2003, with the first two helmed by James Cameron and the third by Jonathan Mostow). The trilogy earned more than $1 billion US at the worldwide box office.

A computer-generated depiction of Schwarzenegger appeared in 2009's fourth instalment, Terminator Salvation, directed by McG and starring Christian Bale and Sam Worthington.

The Terminator revival comes after earlier announcements of other blockbuster movie franchises planning new editions, including Star Warsand Pirates of the Caribbean.
