The Beatles honoured 50 years after North American debut

Half a century ago, four musical lads from Liverpool came to North America, ignited Beatlemania on this side of the Atlantic and electrified the rock 'n' roll scene.

This weekend, a host of celebrations are honouring the Beatles John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr by paying tribute to that momentous moment, from a TV special featuring today's hottest musical acts toasting the iconic British band to New York's Ed Sullivan Theater unveiling a commemorative marquee to musicians performing in honour of the Fab Four in Manhattan.

Blurred Vision is the sole Canadian band taking part in the latter festivities, with the group to perform Dear John, a song they penned about late Beatles co-founder John Lennon.

"With everything that is happening in the world right now and all hardships people face, John would have been on the front lines," said Blurred Vision member Sepp Osley.

"We thought what a great way to celebrate that: writing a song dedicated to him and bringing in all the elements of what the Beatles really stood for."
