The Book of Negroes nominated for two Critics' Choice Awards

Critically acclaimed CBC miniseries The Book of Negroes has been nominated for two Critics' Choice Television Awards, revealed the Broadcast Television Journalists Association Wednesday.

Critically acclaimed CBC miniseries The Book of Negroes has been nominated for two Critics' Choice Television Awards, revealed the Broadcast Television Journalists Association Wednesday.

The critically-acclaimedCBC seriesThe Book of Negroesmay soon have more accomplishments to its name.

The historical drama has beennominated fortwo Critics'Choice Television Awards: oneforbest limited series and one for best actress in a movie or limited seriesforlead,AunjanueEllis.

The Book of Negroes is up against some big contenders in thebest limited series category,including24: Live Another Day,OliveKitteridge andTheHonorableWoman, which also had its Canadian premiere on CBC Television.

Actress Aunjanue Ellis is nominated for best actress in a limited series for her role as Aminata Diallo in The Book of Negroes.
In Negroes,Ellis playsAminataDiallo, a woman who was kidnapped from her west African home as a girl and sold into slavery in the U.S., in theTV adaptation based on Lawrence Hill's award-winning book.

The six-part miniseries, directed by Clement Virgo,premiered on CBC in January and earnedtop ratings for its time slot.

TheBroadcast Television Journalists Association announcedthe full list of contenders for the 5th annualCritics'Choice Television Awards.

The awards will be handed out onMay 31 at a galainBeverly Hills, Calif.

The show will broadcast live at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT) on A&E.
