West in MVA lineup, a year after insulting Swift

The MTV Video Awards have invited Kanye West to perform at this year's ceremonies, a year after he stormed the stage during Taylor Swift's acceptance speech.

Peformer blasted for seizing mic from country singer in 2009

Kanye West is returning to the MTV Video Music Awards to perform, a year after storming the stage and insulting singer Taylor Swift after she won the best female pop video prize.

"Fans will be glued to the screen to see what the rapper has in store for the audience,"MTV said in a statement on Friday.

At the 2009 MVAs, West became the talk of the ceremonies after he seized the microphone from the country singer, who was in the midst of an acceptance speech, declaring the award should have gone to Beyonce.

The rant became a touchstone, with many celebrities lambasting West for his outburst, including President Barack Obama, who called the performer a "jackass."

West issued a public apology to Swift and even appeared on The Jay Leno Show to apologize yet again.

"It was rude, period," West told Leno.

West has one nomination this year for his collaboration with Canada's Drake, Li'l Wayne and Eminem on the Forever music video.

Swift is up again for best female video, this time for Fifteen.
