Budget 2014 and election law changes on Wednesdays with Kady

After delivering his 10th federal budget, finance ministerJim Flaherty now has to sell it to Canadians.

The Conservatives are now projecting a $2.9-billion deficit for this year, just within the $3-billion contingency Flaherty has built in in case of major unforeseen events. Next year, the finance minister expects to be back in the black with aprojected surplus of $6.4 billion.

But the budget is not the only topic of conversation in Ottawa this week. The government's proposed Fair Elections Act was criticized by Chief Electoral Officer Marc Mayrand during an interview with CBC Radio's The House.Could the bill be amended?
