Crown-First Nations gathering agenda

Here's the agenda for Tuesday's Crown-First Nations gathering.

First Nations and government leaders arrive for the historic talks starting at 8:30 a.m. ET, followed by opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. ET.

The event will begin with a procession, followed by a smudging ceremony, prayers and an exchange of gifts.

Gov. Gen. David Johnston, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and National Chief Shawn Atleo from the Assembly of First Nations will all speak following the opening ceremonies.

Public presentations to the full assembly on a variety of issues will continue until a break for lunch at 11:30 a.m. ET.

In the afternoon, three private breakout sessions will discuss:

  • treaty rights and land claims negotiations.
  • economic development for First Nations communities.
  • education and skills training.

The gathering is expected to end with another joint session and closing remarks at around 4 p.m. ET.
