Tom Mulcair plays Hip Flip with Nardwuar the Human Serviette

NDP Leader Tom Mulcair is the latest federal politician to play the Hip Flip game with quirky Vancouver journalist Nardwuar the Human Serviette. He's the second federal leader to do so, after Nardwuar ambushed Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau last week.

TheNDP's Tom Mulcair is the latest federal leader to play the Hip Flipgame with Nardwuar the Human Serviette, thequirky Vancouver journalist.

The two played the classic1960sParker Brothers gameduring Mulcair's campaign stop in Vancouver overtheweekend.

The game had Nardwuar and Mulcairholding up apole with theirstomachsand gyrating tospin a hanging piece of plastic. After a false start, in which the game broke and Mulcairpretended to be stabbed by the pole,the pair successfullyflipped the plastic piece around the pole two times.

Itcame at the end of hisinterview with Nardwuar, which Mulcair did alongsidehis wife,Catherine PinhasMulcair.

Nardwuar who is renowned for his extremely specific interview questions and the gifts he brings his interview subjects touched on Mulcair's first car, his high school music preferences and the 1970sQuebec rockbandHarmonium.

At one point, Nardwuar brought out collectibleboxing puppets of former British Columbia premiers Mike Harcourt and Bill Vander Zalm and hadMulcair and his wife box with them. Mulcairfalsely identified the puppetHarcourt asformer NDP MPYvon Godin before Nardwuar corrected him.

He also showed the couple avinyl box set ofspeeches by NDP icon Tommy Douglas.

Mulcair was eager to play when Nardwuar proposed the game.

"The only person I ever Hip Flip with is Catherine, but if you want to show us what to do, we can give it a try," he told Nardwuar in the interview.

A staple on the campaign trail

It's not the first time the game has made an appearance during the currentcampaign. Last week,NardwuarinterruptedLiberal Leader JustinTrudeau'spress conferenceand challenged himto the Hip Flip game.TrudeauplayedwithNardwuarafter agreeing totake"more serious questions from everyone else."

Nardwuar has been attempting to play Hip Flip with Canadian federal politicians since the 2004 election campaign, when the Liberal Party formed a minority government.

In the past, Nardwuar has played the game withPaul Martin, Jean Chrtien, Jack Laytonand Michael Ignatieff. NeitherConservative Leader Stephen Harper norBloc QubcoisLeaderGilles Duceppe have agreed to playHip Flip during past campaigns.Nardwuar claims he was carried away by security during a Harper campaign event in 2004.

Nardwuar told CBC News Monday afternoon that he would love to try again to play Hip Flip withHarper and thathe will attempt to play with Green Party Leader Elizabeth May.
