Porter Airlines to expand service to U.S. destinations

Porter Airlines has announced plans to begin flying travellers to Newark, N.J. and other U.S cities.

The Toronto-based airline said Wednesday it aims to begin service to Newark Liberty International Airport by the end of this year and no later than early 2008.

"We will now be able to offer true competition and superior service on a number of U.S. routes," Robert Deluce, the company's president and CEO, said in a release.

The privately ownedairline, which currently serves Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal, said in addition to adding the new Newark route, it also hopes to introduce service to as many as nine U.S. destinations, including Chicago, Boston, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Cincinnati and Cleveland.

Porter announced in March that it will offer summer service to Halifax from Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal between June 29 and Sept. 4.
