Facebook instant articles launches in Canada, on Android

Facebook's instant articles service, which allows media firms to publish articles directly to users' news feeds, launched in Canada and on Android devices today.

Facebook'sinstant articles service, which allows media firms to publish articles directly to users' news feeds, launched in Canada and on Android devices today.

Starting Wednesday, Canadian users may start to see articles fromLe Journal de Montral and Le Journal de Qubec, Facebook said in a news release.Rogers Media brandssuch asChatelaine, Maclean's and Sportsnet are expected before the end of this year.

Facebookalso rolled the instant articles service out to Android users around the world.

The service involves more than 350 publications worldwideincluding the New York Times, NBC News, the Guardian, Haaretzand Al Jazeera English.

Instant articles was launched in Maywith nine media outletsin the U.S., the U.K. and Germany. Ithas been availableon iOS devices since October.

The service allows publishers to either sell and embedadvertisements in the articles and keep all of the revenue, orallow Facebook to sell ads.

Facebook also lets publishers track data and traffic throughcomScore and other analytics tools.
