The Case of Omar Khadr

The National's coverage of the prosecution of Omar Khadr.

For years, a battle has been brewing over the fate of Omar Khadr, the young Canadian held at Guantanamo Bay, alleged to have ties to al-Qaeda, and charged with war crimes in relation to the death of American soldier Christopher Speer in Afghanistan.

Then, on October 25, 2010, during his trialin front of amilitary commission in Guantanamo Bay, Omar Khadr entered a plea of guilty to five war crimes, including murder and conspiracy, as part of a deal that will see him spend no more than 8 years in prison, much of that possibly in Canada.
