Enbridge criticized for 2nd pipeline leak

An environmentalist says another pipeline leak in the U.S. casts doubt on the credibility of Calgary-based Enbridge.

An environmentalist says another pipeline leak in the U.S. casts doubt on the credibility of Calgary-based Enbridge Inc.

Greenpeace spokeswoman Stephanie Goodwin says a leak in Illinois shows Enbridge can't be trusted when it says its network is safe.

Enbridge said the leak was detected in a pipeline running through the community of Romeoville, southwest of Chicago.

The company said the line was shut down within minutes, but it doesn't know how much oil spilled. It says crews are on the scene working to contain the leak and clean it up.

The mishap comes on the heels of a leak in a pipeline in Michigan this summer that leaked nearly 20,000 barrels of crude.

Enbridge was heavily criticized for the leak, which seeped into a creek that connects to the Kalamazoo River.
