Floods swamp homes, roads in South Australia

Heavy rain has caused severe flooding in South Australia state, isolating four communities.

The worst hit is the town of Hawker, where 150 millimetres of rain, seven times the January average, has fallen in the past three days.

It's feared the entire towncouldbe submerged by water from the local dam if the rain doesn't stop soon.

Roads around the towns of Oodnadatta, Whyalla and Port Pirie were also closed by rising waters.

In Oodnadatta,the local hospital said medical supplies were running low.

The State Emergency Service is usingthousands of sandbags to stem the flow of water into homes.

As the outback storm moved east across Australia it also caused flooding in the states of New South Wales and Victoria, where drought conditions sparked several weeks of wildfires.
