Libya expected to OK billions to Lockerbie relatives

Libya is expected to sign a deal on Wednesday accepting responsibility for the Lockerbie bombing in 1988. It would see Libya pay $2.7 billion US to the families of the 270 victims.

The payout is expected to amount to $5 million to $10 million for each of the victims. The deal may also result in sanctions against Libya being lifted.

The victims died when Pan Am Flight 103 blew up over Lockerbie, Scotland. A witness said, "...the sky was actually raining fire."

Eleven of the victims were people on the ground in the village of Lockerbie. Two Canadians aboard the Pan Am flight were killed.

The meeting to sign the deal was to be held in Basel, Switzerland.
