The CBC's Margaret Evans and Jean-Francois Bisson show how dangerous the crossing can be for migrants

Thousands of asylum-seekers many fleeing Syria have risked their lives crossing the sea in small, often flimsy boats. Many have died.

The danger of thejourney became painfully clear when photos circulated around the world of thebody of a three-year-old Syrian boy who drowned along with his brother and his mother after the boat carrying them capsized.

CBC correspondent Margaret Evans and cameramanJean-FranoisBissonset out to showwhat thecrossing might feel like for refugees.

Clarifications

  • A previous version of this story suggested the boat was crossing the Mediterranean Sea. In fact, it was travelling on the Aegean Sea, which is part of the Mediterranean.
