Paris attacks: Timeline of city's night of terror

Gunmen armed with explosives and machine-guns unleashed a night of terror in the Paris area on Friday.Here is a timeline of the attacks.

All times are local and approximate. A more precisechronologyhas not yet been established.

Between 9 p.m. and 9:40 p.m.:

• Three explosions are heard between about 9:20 and9:25 p.m. near the Stade de France stadium just north of Paris, where President Franois Hollande is part of the crowd watching France and Germany play in a soccer match. At least four people are reported killed, including two assailants.

Gunmen open fire on customers inside Le Carillon, a resto-bar on Alibert Street in Paris'scentral10th arrondissement. They also fire on a nearby Cambodian restaurant, Petit Cambodge. Fourteen people are killed. Journalist Olivier Boy is quoted by French media as saying "terrorists arrived by car, and came in and started shooting."

• Gunmen strike a few hundred metres away in the 11th arrondissement, firing at the terrace of La Casa Nostra, a pizzeria on de la Fontaine-au-roi Street, killing five people.

• The Belle Equipe bar on CharonneStreetin the 11th arrondissement comes under attack by two men armed with machine-guns. Eighteen people are reported killed.

• One attacker is thought to have died after detonating a bomb on Voltaire Boulevardoutside a caf called Comptoir Voltaire.

9:45 p.m.:

• At least four attackers enter the Bataclan concert hall on Voltaire Boulevard in Paris's 11th arrondissement, about an hour after U.S. band Eagles of Death Metal takes the stage. Witnesses report hearing them yell "Allahu akbar." At one point during the hostage-taking, gunmen unleash several rounds from assault rifles in an attack that lasts 10 to 15 minutes. The attack kills at least 87 people.

11:02 p.m.:

• President Franois Hollande places the whole of France under a state of emergency and announces that controls have been re-institutedatall of France's borders, which are normally open to other countries in the EU border-free zone.

11:30 p.m.:

• Police commandos storm the concert hall. At least two of the attackers detonate their explosive belts as police close in and one dies from gunfire.

12:00 a.m.:

• Officials say the police operation at the concert hall is over.

1:25 a.m.:

• Paris prosecutor Franois Molins says the death toll following the attacks could exceed 120. Authorities later say at least 127 people were killed and about 200 were wounded.
