Nine churches have been burned out in renewed religious fighting in Nigeria.

Nine churches have been burned in renewed religious fighting in Nigeria.

Muslims and Christians are involved in a cycle of revenge attacks connected to the European cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

The latest fighting was reported in Enugu in southeastern Nigeria, where Christian youths armed with machetes and clubs are believed to have killed at least seven people. Reports say Christians rampaged through the city looking for Muslims. One witness said the crowds pulled a motorbike taxi driver to the ground and beat him to death.

In the town of Kontagora, in central Nigeria, Christians have been attacked and churches torched. Police used tear gas to try to control the mobs.

Dozens of people have died since fighting broke out in Nigeria in response to Danish cartoons of Muhammad.
