On Feb. 24, Russian forces invaded Ukraine, the culmination of Russian President Vladimir Putin's repeated ultimatums to the West after world leaders were unsuccessful inde-escalating geopolitical tension in the region.

Since then, Russian forces have attacked Ukraine on a variety of fronts, from the capital, Kyiv, to Kharkiv in the northeast to Mariupol on the Black Sea.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine was premised, at least in part, on Putin's concern Ukraine would join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
