Green Lantern trailer, revisited

Have you seen the new trailer for The Green Lantern released online this week? It definitely looks similar to the fan-created promo floating around YouTube. With more than five million views to date, the amateur version (starring Nathan Fillion!) has garnered more attention than the Warner Bros. original. Perhaps the studio took a hint.

For instance, the driving rock of the first trailer has been replaced by a rousing wave of orchestral sound in the second. We see less of Canadian star Ryan Reynolds' ripped body (admittedly the main reason I was interested in Green Lantern in the first place) and instead get a clearer portrait of the intergalactic Green Lantern Corps, which was also a focus of the fan trailer.

While we're given more of a storyline to chew on, I'm still not convinced that The Green Lantern will do anything more than inspire daydreams of stepping into Blake Lively's seemingly-passive-but-undoubtedly-stylish shoes to await rescue by Reynolds.

Plus, the alien Green Lanterns who help prep Reynolds to save the Earth resemble Happy Meal action figures: plastic, cheesy and easy to break.

Will director Martin Campbell's efforts, the awesomely creepy Peter Sarsgaard as villainous Hector Hammond and Reynolds' muscled bod combine in a way that proves captivating for summer moviegoers? If it steers away from The Green Hornet and leans towards Thor, The Green Lantern has a chance come June 17.
