The Walrus is going for your funny bone. Beginning Canada Day, the charitable foundation that publishes the award-winning magazine is launching an online humour site dedicated to Canadian yucks.

Some of the content will come from the old-fashioned, paper-and-ink magazine, which is published 10 times a year. But the plan is to have a stream of new, more timely material as well.

Perry Rosemond, curator of the site, is commissioning humour -- in videos, illustrations or writing -- from talent such as Gordon Pinsent, Kenny Robinson and actor-playwright David Yee. Formerly writer, director and producer of CBC's Air Farce, Rosemond's sensibilities are likely to be slightly different from those of the Walrus editors, who are at least a generation younger.

There is also potential for user-generated material, as well as the usual opportunities to nay-say what is posted -- a chance to prove that humour is in the eye of the beholder.
