Layton's Green 'welcome'

A lone protester was kicked out of an Oshawa parking lot this morning, where Jack Layton was holding a campaign event.

Police politely removed Cavan Gostlin from the site because he was carrying two Green Party campaign signs.

Gostlin was protesting the NDP leader's refusal to allow Green party Leader Elizabeth May to participate in the nationally televised leaders' debates.

"C'mon Jack. What are you afraid of," Gostlin said. "They're excluding a party leader who got 600,000 votes in the last election? We have a right to speak. This is a democracy ferchrissakes."

Gostlin is a Green party member.

He says his ex-wife is Pat Gostlin, a Green party candidate in Oshawa.

As Gostlin marched alone up and down the sidewalk beside the NDP event, two women bearing placards joined him.

"Let Elizabeth speak," the signs read.
