Movie tickets: The numbers are up. Are you going to more movies?

Global movie ticket sales climbed 7.6 per cent in 2009 to $29.9 billion US, according to the Motion Picture Association of America.
The group representing U.S. studios said the greatest growth was in Asia Pacific, where box office was up 12.3 per cent, boosted by sales in Japan and China.
Global box office sales rose from $27.8 billion US in 2008. The recession seemed to have little effect on cinema attendance.
The growth of 3-D screens also played a role with the popularity of offerings such as Avatar and Up boosting ticket sales.
Box offices in the U.S. and Canada generated $10.6 billion US in ticket sales, about 36 per cent of global sales.
