Pension security: What are you doing to save?

Hundreds of workers were expected to march down Toronto's Bay Street on Tuesday to demand reforms to the pension system aimed at bringing security for aging Canadian workers.

Delegates to the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada convention, many of whom have seen their pension plans decrease over the last year, are making the issue a central theme at their convention, being held this week at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

The issue of pension reform has been on the national agenda since December, when Finance Minister Jim Flaherty met with his provincial counterparts to try to overhaul Canada's retirement income system.

Since then, there have been a number of high-profile collapses of numerous private pension plans, such as that of Nortel Networks Corp. When the tech giant entered bankruptcy protection in 2009, various levels of government stepped in with hundreds of millions of dollars to help guarantee pensions.

Do you have a pension? If so, do you believe yours is secure?
