Increased telecom competition in Canada: How would it make you feel?

The Canadian government should quickly lift all restrictions on foreign ownership in the telecom companies, a study recommended Monday.

The Montreal-based SeaBoard Group said the move would keep the mobile phone industry competitive and benefit consumers.

SeaBoard, which provides research and consulting services to the telecommunications industry, said outside companies could bring capital and know-how to the industry.
"It is our recommendation that the government allow foreign investment to enter the Canadian telecommunications industry unabated and without restriction," the report said.

Since this story was originally posted, CBC commenter Mighty-Thor said that "at one time, I would of been dead set against [allowing more foreign control] but [...] Telus, Bell, Rogers have scammed and ripped off people and have a monopoly on the market. That is one industry that could use real competition.
