Douglas Allen Smith Jr., said he was inspired by the nickname of a character on NBC's popular spy-comedy Chuck, Dr. Devon (Captain Awesome) Woodcomb.

The man formerly known as Douglas said a skeptical judge granted his request to change names last month on strict conditions that he wasn't changing it for fraudulent reasons, The Associated Press reported.
