The likes of Eminem, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Jay-Z and Lady Gaga were honoured Wednesday with Grammy nods along with Canadian compatriots Drake, Justin Bieber and Montreal's Arcade Fire.
Some choices may have been predictable. Still, others are raising eyebrows, such as the nomination in the best pop performance (group) category for the cast of the Fox comedy Glee, which covered Journey's Don't Stop Believin'.
Meanwhile, New York Magazine's culture blog was miffed about the exclusion of Big Boi's album Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty in the best rap album category, calling it a "head-slappingly obvious" frontrunner for the award.
As for the inclusion of emerging jazz bassist-vocalist Esperanza Spalding in the best new artist category, it was a surprising coup for her genre. Jazz is typically underplayed in the category, and Spalding will be up against Bieber, Drake, Florence + the Machine and Mumford & Sons.
Now let's hear from you. What were this year's shockers and snubs at the Grammy nominations?
