Landlines: Do you still use one at home to make phone calls?

More than half of Americans age 25 to 29 live in households that have given up on traditional landline telephones, a study suggests.

A report on phone use by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests that young people are increasingly comfortable relying only on cellphones, even as they begin to have children and adjust to a more settled lifestyle.

Canadian figures released Friday show the shift from landline to cellphone isn't as dramatic, although it is highly significant.

According to Statistics Canada, 77 per cent of Canadian homes have at least one cellphone. The proportion of homes with landline service has dropped to 89 per cent, the lowest level since 1965.
