The King is leaving the CNN building.

Iconic talk show host Larry King wraps up his 25-year run on CNN Thursday night.

The end of Larry King Live is "undeniably a cultural milestone", according to Frazier Moore, The Associated Press's television writer.

"King, the suspenders-sporting everyman, is a pioneer in cable and a TV institution."

The 77-year-old broadcaster is retiring after conducting an estimated 50,000 interviews during his entire broadcasting career.

Numerous high-profile guests from all walks of life have appeared on his prime-time chat show, from sitting U.S. presidents to former heavyweight champion boxer Mike Tyson.

King's successor will be Piers Morgan, a 45-year-old British journalist and television personality known mainly in the U.S. as a judge on NBC's America's Got Talent reality show.
