Drivers in Quebec and Ontario were involved in hundreds of accidents over the weekend as dropping temperatures and wet weather made roads slick and dangerous.
Most of the accidents were minor, with many cars sliding into ditches. Police in both provinces are advising drivers to avoid following cars too closely and allow plenty of time to stop.
The tricky road conditions are expected to continue Monday.
Snow squall warnings and watches are in place for Ontario communities including London, Collingwood and Barrie, but Toronto is only predicted to get two to four centimetres on Monday.
Weather forecasters in Quebec are predicting another five to 15 millimetres of precipitation across central regions, 30 to 80 millimetres in eastern Quebec and more than 100 millimetres in the Gasp and Lower North Shore.
Quebec Transport Minister Sam Hamad said the province's mandatory winter tire laws, introduced in 2008, have helped to reduce the number of accidents by five per cent last year.
According to the province, about 40 per cent of all motor vehicle accidents in Quebec take place in the winter.
