Words: Which do you find the most irritating?

For the second year in a row, the word "whatever" topped a Marist poll as the most irritating word in the English language, but "like," and "you know what I mean" weren't far behind, Reuters reported.

The poll, which used a sample of 1,020 Americans, found 39 per cent voted the word "whatever" as the most irritating, 28 per cent voted for the word "like" and the phrase "you know what I mean" captured 15 per cent of the vote.

There's no doubt the English language is constantly evolving, and the internet is playing a big role driving this evolution. Earlier this year, The Guardian reported a published paper from the English Spelling society that concludes the "internet has revolutionized the English language, and made misspelling the norm."

In 2009, Reuters reported "unfriend" as the 2009 word of the year, originated from the act of removing a friend on a social networking website like Facebook.

We are curious: What words irritate you the most? Take our survey and let us know.

(This is not a scientific survey. It is based on readers' responses).
