The Social Network, widely named 2010's best film by a host of critics, was the big winner at the Golden Globes on Sunday night.
The Facebook tale scored one of the evening's major honours, best dramatic film, as well as three other trophies at the posh Beverly Hills, Calif., gala -- best screenplay (by Aaron Sorkin), original score (by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross) and direction (for David Fincher).
"I'm loath to address the wonderful response that this film has received for fear of becoming addicted to it. It's been really nice," Fincher said when he took the stage to accept his award.
As was to be expected, chatter about the selection of The Social Network taking the big award for best dramatic film was mixed, with some calling into doubt whether a film about a website should be deserving of such accolades.
"Whatever," commented CBC community member Uncle Cool, whose personal choice would have been the mind-bending sci-fi caper Inception.
"Anyway, 'Facebook' movie? Are you serious?"
Although CBC community member jeffer was impressed with The Social Network, the user felt it shouldn't have triumphed in the best dramatic film category.
"Social Network was a great movie, but it won over The Fighter? Come on! Both were gripping true stories, both had great scripts. But Social Network was mediocre acting at best."
How did you feel about The Social Network's domination at The Golden Globes? Which film do you think deserved recognition as the best dramatic film at the awards show? Take our survey and tell us in the conversation below.
(This survey is not scientific. It is based on readers' responses.)
