Wikipedia: Have you ever contributed content or edited posts?

Wikipedia, the popular collaborative online encyclopedia project, celebrates its 10th birthday on Saturday.

The non-profit website has so far published more than 3.5 million free articles in English, with an aim to expand with its first overseas office in India, followed by Brazil, Egypt and the Middle East.

Equally praised and maligned for allowing anyone to contribute to entries and edit posts, Wikipedia has served as a trove of random information -- from explanations of complex geo-political events to profiles of pop stars -- since its founding in 2001 by Jimmy Wales.

Detractors still warn of the potential for inaccurate information on the site due to the edit-it-yourself approach, and prank edits have not been unheard of. Even so, Wikipedia retains a strong following, having recently exceeded its goal of raising $16 million in funds in just 50 days to keep the encyclopedia running.
