WikiLeaks has been nominated for the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize.  

The nomination comes courtesy of Snorre Valen, a lawmaker from Norway's Socialist Left Party. Valen told The Associated Press he had submitted his bid for WikiLeaks to the prize committee on Tuesday.

Valen posted about his nomination on his personal blog, where he likened WikiLeaks to last year's Nobel Peace prize-winner Liu Xiabao, explaining that the whistle-blowing organization is engaged in a similar struggle for human rights, democracy and freedom of speech.

Though Valen has been public about the nomination, WikiLeaks' odds of actually winning a Nobel Peace Prize are unknown. It is estimated the prize committee receives over 200 nominations each year.
