My official list is much longer, but if I had to choose, I'd go see these.

Blue Valentine: I have been wanting to see this drama from theminute I heard Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams would be workingtogether. They're two of my favourite young actors and they look sogood next to each other. And apparently they work well together, too. Theyhave been getting major buzz since Sundance for this portrayal of a couple on therocks.

127 Hours: Is it just me, or does James Franco just keep getting better? I was really hoping his other big movie, Howl (in which he plays poet Allan Ginsberg) would hit the fest this year, but I'll settle for this Danny Boyle-directed true-life tale about a mountain climber who has to amputate his arm after it gets stuck under a boulder.

Black Swan: I'm not a big Natalie Portman fan, but it lookslike she's going to tear up the screen with her performance as aseriously disturbed ballerina in this Darren Aronofsky flick. Plus, Ilove everything Aronofsky does. And he gets automatic bonus points forgiving my long-lost favourite, Winona Ryder, a decent role.

I'm Still Here: I saw Joaquin Phoenix at the Walk the Line premiere back in 2005 and he seemed fairly normal. Now that he got all beardy and out-there, I'm curious what's up. Hoax or not, I'm into it.

John Carpenter's The Ward: As a horror nerd and camp lover, I try to take in at least one Midnight Madness flick every year. This year, I wasn't particularly into the line-up, except this supposed psychological thriller by horror master John Carpenter. Halloween still scares me (not much else does). If this does anywhere near as much damage to my psyche as it did, I may have to spend the rest of the fest hiding under the covers.
