Greig's personal picks for TIFF 2010

arts-dymond-52.jpgIf anyone had told me five years ago that the Affleck brothers would be directing two highly anticipated films at TIFF, I wouldn't have believed them. But wonders never cease -- and I'm really looking forward to The Town, Ben's sophomore directorial effort, and I'm Still Here, Casey's documentary about Joaquin Phoenix's apparent descent into hip-hop madness.

I also can't wait to see Errol Morris's Tabloid. The legendary documentarian never disappoints, and this film about a former beauty pageant queen promises to be another one of his gorgeous dissections of the media.

Mother of Rock: Lillian Roxon
is an Australian doc about one of the first full-time rock music critics; fans of the New York club scene in the 1970s should not miss this.

And finally: Michael Winterbottom's The Trip stars two of the funniest guys in British comedy, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, playing fictionalized versions of themselves, as they did in Tristram Shandy. They travel around the English countryside, exploring their professional rivalry and doing impressions of Sean Connery and Michael Caine. That's all I need to know.
