Lee's picks for TIFF 2010

lee-ferguson-52.jpgSo many treasures, so little time. It's TIFF Day One and I'm already feeling like I might have to clone myself in order to catch all of the screenings I'd like to see! I'm still whittling down my picks, but here's what's on my wish list so far...

Meek's Cutoff: Director Kelly Reichardt (one of my faves) re-teams with star Michelle Williams for a period drama that should be every bit as spare and haunting as their 2008 TIFF triumph Wendy and Lucy.

Promises Written in Water: Pretentious provocateur, or indie genius? Either way, director Vincent Gallo always gives you something to discuss in the lobby afterwards.

You Are Here: I'm hearing great advance buzz about Daniel Cockburn's feature debut, a brainy meta-detective story, which stars the late Tracy Wright in one of her final, undoubtedly mesmerizing, screen performances.

A Married Couple: Allan King's Canadian vrit classic arrives at TIFF - in a newly restored version, no less. Promises to be as raw and riveting today as it was in 1969.

Black Swan: The trailer alone has me convinced this will be the whacked-out women's picture of my melodramatic dreams. Now if only I could score a ticket.

Catch you in the Rush lines, people!
