Saskatoon early birds line up for a tour of the new Saskatoon station.

Who knew so many people in Saskatoon get up so early?

At the Open House CBC Saskatchewan held Thursday morning to celebrate the on-air launch of Saskatoon Morning, the first 50 free coffee mugs were gone by 6:20 a.m. And then it got busy.

Host Leisha Grebinski kept the morning show under control from the middle of the station as waves of people toured the premises.   People listen as staff tour guides explain how the news and current affairs programs go to air.
In the lobby, Digital Curator Matt Kruchak managed the online conversation as more people mingled with hosts such as Craig Lederhouse or spun the prize wheel under the supervision of CBC Saskatchewan television host Jill Morgan.

Staffers answered questions and conducted the tours. More than 300 people went through the station from 6:00 to 9:00.

Saskatoon Morning aims to reflect the dynamic pace and vigour of Canada's fastest growing city. The program began airing just four weeks ago.

It's all part of CBC's Local Service Extension plan, which also includes a new presence in communities such as Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo and Kamloops, too.

Until the launch of Saskatoon Morning, Regina's Morning Edition covered the entire province.
