SPRING/SUMMER RECAP BY RCBSTORMPOST

Hey Folks,
Before we look ahead to the rest of the Fall and this Winter... we just have to look back at the incredible Spring & Summer.
In St. John's, it all started with the warmest April ever recorded! Remember This? Then it ended with the warmest September recorded at YYT! Check it out. In between, it was one of the nicest Summers most can remember, right across NL.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Rodney Barney, from the Gander Weather Office has been crunching the numbers from the past 6 months and his numbers confirm what we have all suspected... this Spring/Summer combo was one of the best ever! In most cases, it was second only to 1999 or 2006!
Here are Rodney's stats...
St. John's YYT: April 1st - Sept 30th average daily high temperature: 16.9. Ranks as 2nd warmest "warm season", just behind 1999, which had an average high of 17.0 over the same period.
Gander YQX: April 1st - Sept 30th average daily high temperature: 17.8. This TIES the record with the same period in 1999, as the warmest "warm season"
Port aux Basques: April 1st - Sept 30th average high temperature: 14.8. This is a NEW RECORD for the warmest "warm season". Old record was 13.7 in 1994.
Deer Lake YDF: April 1st - Sept 30th average high temperature: 18.7. Ranks as 2nd warmest "warm season", just behind 1999, which had an average high of 18.9 over the same period.
Happy Valley-Goose Bay YYR: April 1st - Sept 30th average high temperature: 17.0. Ranks as 2nd warmest "warm season", just behind 2006, which had an average high of 17.1 over the same period.
Wabush YWK: April 1st - Sept 30th average high temperature: 14.4. This TIES with 2006 & 2008 as the 2nd warmest "warm season". The record of 14.6 in 1999, still stands.
Note: All rankings are based on the average daytime high temperatures. Rankings for mean daily temperatures may differ.
Rodney has also crunched the numbers on our number of 20 degree days...
It's little surprise that we shattered last years numbers (sorry Nain)... however as you can see, it was a record breaking year for 20 days in St. John's, Stephenville, Daniel's Harbour, Cartwright AND Happy Valley-Goose Bay!
And finally... some Spring/Summer notables and other records broken.
So the question, or more specifically, the statement I've been hearing most frequently is..."Ryan boy, we are going to pay for all this nice weather. This winter is going to be brutal!"
Does history back this up? What are the signs pointing to? Most importantly, what are the long range climate models saying?
