Contact Paper Stained Glass Canadian Flag: Easy Craft for Kids

Contact paper is pretty much one of the greatest craft supplies ever for little kids. It's like one big giant sticker, and kids love sticking things to it! This contact paper flag craft looks great hanging in a window (it looks a bit like stained glass when the light shines through) and really shows off your family's patriotism for Canada Day!

Kids will develop fine motor skills and flex their creativity with this activity. Cutting up squares of tissue paper is also a good way for kids to get in some scissor skills practice (with supervision).

You'll need:

• two pieces of clear contact paper (avialable where drawer liners are sold), each about 12" by 18"
• red ribbon
• scissors
• red tissue paper
• tape (for hanging in the window)

How to make a contact paper Canada flag:

1. Cut your red tissue paper into 1-inch squares (these don't have to be perfect by any means)
2. Unpeel the backing from one piece of contact paper.
3. Create borders for the red strips on your flag using the ribbon. Outline your maple leaf as well. I used pipe cleaners for this (following a simple maple leaf template that we printed out from Google images), but I don't recommend using pipe cleaners. The fuzz fuzzed all over my sticky contact paper, and the pipe cleaner didn't want to stick. I recommend just putting the template underneath the contact paper, and following it as a guide.

4. Now the fun part! Have your kids fill in the outlined areas by filling them with tissue paper squares! So easy.
5. When the flag is filled in, add your second piece of contact paper on top to seal it all up.
