Costume DIY: Make Gary’s Unicorn Horn
Oct 6, 2017
Anyone can become everyone's favourite hug-loving unicorn with this easy unicorn horn DIY!
You'll Need:
- our free printable
- yellow or white cardstock
- blue craft foam
- braided elastic
- washi tape (red, orange, yellow, blue and purple)
- hot glue
- hole punch
- scissors
- pencil
- crayons (red, orange, yellow, blue and purple)(optional)
- stapler
- purple yarn
How To:
1. Print out Gary's unicorn horn template (click to open in a new window). Cut out the horn shape and the ear shape.
2. Trace the horn template onto the yellow or white cardstock. Cut out.
3. Trace the ear template onto the blue craft foam, twice. Cut both ears out.
4. Make thick diagonal stripes across your horn with the washi tape in the following order: red, orange, yellow, blue, purple. Trim any excess tape from around the edges of the horn template. If you don't have washi tape, no problem! You can use crayons and colour your stripes instead.
5. Roll the horn template into a horn shape. Use hot glue to secure it in place.
6. Fold the ears together at the bottom only. Hold them in place and staple them to opposite sides of the horn.
7. Measure the amount of elastic you'll need to keep the horn in place comfortably under your little Gary's chin, add a couple of inches and cut that length of elastic. Punch two holes below the ears on either side of the horn. Thread one end of the elastic through one of the holes you've just punched. Tie a knot at the end of the elastic and pull taught. Do the same ont he other side.
8. Cut pieces of purple yarn to make Gary's hair tuft. These don't have to be perfect (you can always trim them later). Add them to the horn with hot glue. You're done!
