DIY Sticky Jack-o’-Lantern Halloween Bath Play Set

Craft foam is such a great material…  Not only is it inexpensive and readily available at dollar and craft stores, but it also cuts really well and sticks to smooth, wet surfaces with ease, making it the perfect material to play with in the bathtub! With Halloween on its way, spice up bath time with this sticky jack-o-lantern bathtub set that’s both easy to make and fun for little ones of all ages.

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

  • large craft foam sheets
  • scissors

A pair of scissors sitting on top of the needed foam: two sheets of orange craft foam, one sheet of yellow craft foam, one sheet of black craft foam and two sheets of green craft foam (in two different shades of green).

Creating your own sticky jack-o'-lantern bathtub set is as easy as cutting out all several pumpkin shapes and a bunch of little bits and bobs to decorate them with. Perfection really isn’t necessary here, so I recommend just jumping in and doing the cutting freehand. I like to start by cutting out several different pumpkin shapes and these are made extra easy by folding the foam sheet in half and cutting out just one side of the shape. In no time at all, you’ll have several symmetrical pumpkins all ready to go.

Next comes the little add-on shapes…  Things like eyes, noses, mouths, and stems. Of course, you can get as creative as you like here — eyebrows and ears would be fun too! To keep things really easy, when cutting out anything that comes in pairs, stack two bits of foam and cut both pieces out at one time. This will keep the process efficient plus ensure that both eyes or ears are the same size and shape too.

A variety of shapes cut out and ready for play: different pumpkin shapes, stem shapes, eye shapes, nose shapes and mouth shapes. There are about three of each kind of shape.

Now time for the fun part! When bath time rolls around, create a pumpkin decorating station right there in your bathroom by putting some of the pieces in the water and some up on the wall. The coolest part is that all the foam pieces need in order to stick both on the wall and to themselves, is a little bit of water!

Invite your little one to create some jack-o'-lanterns and then take them all apart and start again.

Enjoy!
