Easy DIY Napkin Man Cape

The Adventures of Napkin Man is such a popular show, and we get a lot of people asking us where they can by Napkin Man capes! For now, we're sad to say that there isn't anywhere to buy Napkin Man capes. BUT! We've come up with a simple and inexpensive way to make your own capes! No sewing, no expensive materials, just a few simple supplies and a bit of creativity and you'll end up with a personalized cape for your little Napkin Man fan. 

We made these capes at this year's Kids' CBC Days event, and they were a huge hit. 

Here's what you need:

• yellow plastic tablecloth (from the dollar store)
• construction paper
• scissors
• glue 
• shape and letter stencils (optional)

1. Start by cutting the tablecloth into a cape shape. One table cloth makes a lot of capes, so you can easily make a whole bunch at once (this is great for birthday parties). You'll want to make the cape to fit your own little Napkin Man fans, but for reference, ours was about 2.5 feet (76 cm) long and 1.5 feet (46 cm) wide. Cut a hole for the head to go through. Ours was about 9 inches (23 cm) in diameter.

2. You can create stencils from vinyl folders (also from the Dollar Store), if desired. These are great for kids who want to practice tracing. At Kids' CBC Days, we had a whole selection of shape and letter stencils, but you and your Napkin Man fans can also draw things free hand. Draw or trace whichever shapes or letters you like onto construction paper.

3. Cut out your shapes and glue them to your cape. If you're layering construction paper shapes onto each other, a glue stick works well, but we found white craft glue best for gluing paper onto the capes.

4. Wait for the glue to dry, and you're done!
