Easy Halloween Craft: Bat Luminaries

By Maureen Macmillan, Twig and Toadstool

With Halloween quickly approaching, we wanted to whip up a simple craft to celebrate the season. This craft took literally minutes to make, and we are delighted with the end result.

To make your own Halloween luminaries you will need:

  • tissue paper (white, black, orange)
  • scissors
  • Mod Podge (available at craft supply stores)
  • paintbrush
  • glass jars or glass votive holders

To begin, tear up your tissue paper into small pieces.

Take your Mod Podge and start applying it to your jar. Place a layer of tissue paper pieces on top and apply more Mod Podge on top. Cover the sides of your jars entirely.
The end result will look like this:

Allow to dry before you move onto the next step.

Cut out some small bats with your black tissue paper.

Take your Mod Podge and apply a thin layer where you want your bats to go, then gently apply another layer of Mod Podge on top.

When its dry, get a candle or battery-operated votive and enjoy the moody, spooky light!

You are certainly not limited to bats…below are our bat luminaries and some other creations we made. Let your imagination be your guide!

Happy Halloween!
