materials needed to make vader costume

How It's Made

1. Making the mask

Using your chalk pen, draw the outline of the mask. Fold the felt in half, and cut along the lines. Fold in half again and cut out the eye holes. Before you use the puff paint on the front of the mask, measure some elastic and use your hot glue gun to stick the elastic to the back of the mask. You can use a small piece of extra felt to put on top of the elastic for reinforcement.

Now it's time to decorate the front of the mask. Looking at a picture (or the video linked in this post) draw your best vader mask. It doesn't need to be perfect. Leave your mask to dry overnight.

2. Making the chest plate

Take your black shirt and silver duct tape. Cut varying lentghs of duct tape and stick to the top of the shirt. For the buttons/pannel area of the chest plate, use a cutting board and an xacto knife to cut out the various shapes. Stick to the shirt. Voila!

You can make your own lightsaber or buy one at the dollar store. You can also choose to add a black cape, or not. Now your little Darth Vader is now ready (and warm enough) to go trick-or-treating, all for under $25!

NOTE: Since this is a very dark costume, you might want to add reflective tape to the back so your child can be easily seen.
