Tissue Paper Butterflies

By Cheryl Sliz

Jan 9, 2014

Sure, there may be snow on the ground and the temperatures may be hitting record lows, but that doesn't mean we can't think about Spring! These sweet little butterflies will help little ones develop scissor skills, and they're a whole lot of fun to make. They can be made in any colours you like, and the finished butterflies can be used to decorate kids' bedrooms! What you need:

  • tissue paper (any two colours)
  • clothes pins
  • paint (we used green but any colour will do)
  • paintbrush
  • paint tray or paper plate
  • 2 green pipe cleaners
  • glue
  • googly eyes
  • scissors
  • pencil

Directions:
1. Start of by painting the clothes pins, set them aside to dry.
2. Fold the tissue paper in half, with a pencil draw the butterfly wings. Cut the wings out by following the pencil line.

3. Take 2 or 3 sheets of one colour of wings and place 2 or 3 of the other colour on top. Pinch them together in the centre and secure them with the clothes pin.
4. Twist the pipe cleaners around a pencil and cut them in half. Secure the pipe cleaner (antenna) to the clothes pin. Glue some googly eyes on the clothes pin.
Now fly around to find a place to land for everyone to enjoy!
