Halloween Sensory Soup

By Dyan Robson, And Next Comes L

Toddlers and preschoolers will love this super simple Halloween water sensory bin. It's a great way to work on fine motor skills while exploring pumpkins, ghosts, and the colors of Halloween. And I promise it requires little preparation!

You Will Need:

• water
• black liquid watercolors
• acrylic pumpkins (can be found at Michael's or the dollar store)
• acrylic ghosts table scatter (found at Michael's)
• plastic mini jack-o-lanterns (from the dollar store)
• kitchen utensils (ladle, big spoon, plastic bowl, whisk)

Simply mix a generous amount of black liquid watercolors with the water, add some Halloween items, and then it's play time! Looks a bit eerie, doesn't it?

Scooping, pouring, stirring, and mixing with a whisk are all great ways for little hands to practice fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Using measuring cups and spoons would be a great way to explore math concepts too.

Whenever we do water sensory bins like this one, my boys enjoy scooping up all the little items and putting them in the bowl, occasionally alternating with some scoops of water. They also enjoy counting the items as they transfer them from the sensory bin to the bowl. But perhaps their favorite part is dumping the bowl when it is full and starting the whole process over again.

Happy Halloween!
