Handprint Fall Tree Craft: Two Ways

The kids are back at school, and the weather is getting cooler, but don’t despair... Fall is the perfect time for crafting. This time of year, I am always inspired by the beautiful red, orange and yellow colors all around me. Wouldn’t your little ones love to make one of these gorgeous Fall trees?

My boys and I made two versions. The tissue paper tree is great for older kids and the construction paper tree is perfect for younger children.

Directions:

1. Have the child trace his/her hand onto a piece of white cardstock. (The younger ones may need a little help.) This will be the trunk of the tree.

2) Have the child paint or colour the tree trunk.

3) Have the child cut tissue paper into 1-inch squares, or have the child rip construction paper into little pieces.

4) Wrap the tissue paper around the end of a pencil, dip it in glue, and attach it to the tree.

Or, for the easier version, glue the ripped up pieces of construction paper to the tree.

That’s it! I think both versions are totally adorable, don’t you?

You also have the option of mixing and matching the elements of the trees. For example, you could color the trunk and then add tissue paper leaves. Leave the activity a little open ended, and let your child be as creative as they like. My eight-year old came up with the idea to put a few leaves on the ground, which I thought was pretty clever!
