Make a Thanking Tree for Thanksgiving

By Maureen Macmillan, Twig and Toadstool

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I wanted to figure out a way to take notice of all the things we are thankful for.

Here is my family's version of the Giving Tree.

To make your own you will need:

  • a roll of brown kraft paper (used for wrapping parcels)
  • cardstock in autumn colours
  • scissors
  • Instant Tac (reusable adhesive)
  • markers

To start we cut out some simple shape leaves out of the card stock.

Then we cut out a tree trunk on our brown kraft paper. (Google "tree trunk templates" if you need help.) We stuck this onto our wall using our reusable adhesive.

We used a brown marker to draw bark onto our trunk.

Then the practice of gratitude begins! On each leaf, list something or someone you are thankful for.

And if imagination persists, draw a beautiful bird to add to your tree!

Now the best part: start sticking on your leaves!

And done!!

There is much to be thankful for, and it is so important to teach our children the value of gratitude at any age.

Have a fantastic Thanksgiving.
